Our skin is exposed to environmental stress every day. This modern threat is slowly, but surely making its way into our bodies. Traffic, exhaust fumes, industrial production, soot from hard fuel, tobacco smoke – in two words, city smog. We can see it as a grey cloud, hanging over us, hiding the blue sky of the new day. Its composition is very complex, but can be divided into four main categories: gas molecules, specific pollutants, different types of dust and biological pollutants. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), oxides of nitrogen (NOx), sulfur oxides (SOx), carbon oxide – a range of man-made chemicals we cannot escape, but can certainlyprotect ourselves from.
As the largest organ in our body, our skin is exposed to all these evident sources of pollution. The daily care for it, such as basic washing and cleansing is becoming ever more insufficient. The most exposed part of the skin – our face, is a living canvas, on which our whole environment is imprinted.
To create the Saff product line we researched the most common pollutants in our daily life and realized that they are around us 24/7. Pollen, viruses, bacteria, animal allergens, cigarette smoke, soot, car exhaust fumes, fumes from production plants, cement dust and heavy dust particles are only a small part of the pollutants, which can be found on the surface of the epidermis. If they remain on unprotected skin for even a few hours, these pollutants enter the deep skin layers and cause acne, oiliness, inflammation, premature ageing, the appearance of dry, flaking areas, depigmentation, sensitivity and dryness. The protective barrier function of the skin is compromised and it becomes easily damaged by the accumulation of abnormally high levels of free radicals in the cells. This makes cellular respiration more difficult, leads to oxidative stress and harms the skin’s microbiome.
Protecting the skin from all these factors became our mission. We combined the knowledge of scientists, specialized in botany, biotechnologies, microbiology, ecology and ecotoxicology, so we could create the perfect skincare products – the Antipollution range Saffron & Rose – antioxidant products, which guarantee effective results in the reduction of damage, caused by today’s dynamic world.
